Cluster football

Some people tried out for the cluster football teams. There is an A-team and a B-team and also a girls’ team. The people that made the 3 teams are going to Pinehurst tomorrow to compete in the big football competition. We hope that the weather will be sunny and dry this time!

Fact wall

In reading time we have been reading about different animals. Some groups have started to make our fact wall. When we have enough facts it should be complete. The fact wall looks like a brick wall but its colourful. The facts we have at the moment are facts about the giant squid, the colossal squid and tigers.

Animal Reports

In Room 7 we are doing information reports about an animal that we are interested in.
Our homework was to collect data about our chosen animal and bring it to school. We are currently practising how to write a report properly together with the class. We learnt how to take keywords out of other texts, from books or out of the internet using this really amazing search engine called google. But in order to create an awesome animal report, we will need to plan our work wisely. Wish us good luck!

At trees for survival we will plant these baby trees. Trees for Survival is a day when we plants some trees on a farm. The ones in the black bag are baby totara trees. These trees can grow up to the size of this tree! Look at the size of this tree compared to the babies! We are all really excited to go and plant these trees. There are nearly a thousand trees that we have to plant!! We will be very busy.

In art we have been learning how to draw dragons and how to sketch them as well.
We have also been learning how to illustrate more detailed parts of the dragon. After we have learned to do that well we are going to draw a good copy of one of our dragons and Indian ink them. Here is an example.

TENNIS
Every Monday afternoon and Thursday morning Room 7MM are taking tennis lessons.
A trained professional called Vicki teaches us some tennis skills. This is part of our P.E programme for term 2. Room 7 finds tennis enjoyable and challenging at the same time. We look forward to seeing the improvement that spreads throughout our class.

How to use cm and mm

In our class some of the people did some maths about how to use cm and mm.
First we learn cm. When its 2.8cm it is difficult to get answer with a ruler so we learnt about rounding to the nearest whole number to 2.8cm. So answer is 3cm because 2.8cm is nearest to 3cm.

Some of the people did a mm maths programme.
mm is little bit more difficult than cm because it is thinner to measure but we learnt about how to use mm. Now we are going to  do a question. What is 2.6cm in mm? Easy! First we have to times 10 to move the decimal point to the right. So the answer is 26mm.

                         Tigers
For our reading we are reading about tigers. We chose a fact that we learnt and we chose what a tiger can grow up to. And it can grow up to 4 metres!!!!! What  we had to do was chalk it on the concrete and compare it to something. We chose to compare it to us lying next to it and here are some photos of us.

A Poem for Remembrance Day

"The inquisitive mind of a child"

Why are they selling poppies, Mummy?

Selling poppies in town today.

The poppies, child, are flowers of love.

For the men who marched away.

But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy?

Why not a beautiful rose?

Because my child, men fought and died

In the fields where the poppies grow.

But why are the poppies so red, Mummy?

Why are the poppies so red?

Red is the colour of blood, my child.

The blood that our soldiers shed.

The heart of the poppy is black, Mummy.

Why does it have to be black?

Black, my child, is the symbol of grief.

For the men who never came back.

But why, Mummy are you crying so?

Your tears are giving you pain.

My tears are my fears for you my child.

For the world is forgetting again.
